Baseball Recap: Umatilla's Run of Six Straight Wins Now Over

It was a good run, but Umatilla unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the McLoughlin Pioneers by a score of 8-7. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vikings of the 19-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Rj Estrada was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, David Garcia made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Dominick McCallister, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Umatilla suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 8-3. As for McLoughlin, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1.
