Soccer Game Preview: Vermilion Catholic vs. Westgate

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles will take on the Westgate Tigers in a holiday battle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Westgate took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Vermilion Catholic, who comes in off a win.

While Vermilion Catholic's win against Grace Christian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Warriors on Saturday.

Meanwhile, after soaring to five goals the game before, Westgate was a bit more limited in their match on Wednesday. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting St. Thomas More an easy 8-0 win. Westgate have struggled against St. Thomas More recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Vermilion Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Westgate, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.

Vermilion Catholic took their win against Westgate in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a conclusive 7-2 score. In that matchup, the Eagles amassed a halftime lead of 4-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
