Basketball Recap: Portal Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Zion Lanier and Brian Mcqueen

Portal was the 55-54 winner over Screven County when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Portal Panthers fell 53-42 to the Screven County Gamecocks on Tuesday. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Portal's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Brian Mcqueen, who posted 11 points in addition to six steals and five boards, and Zion Lanier, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. With that strong performance, Mcqueen is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Jaylon Strickland, who put up two points and six boards.

LeVez Roper was the offensive standout of the game as he almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Rodney Beckworth was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 boards.

Portal's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Screven County, their record now sits at 6-7.

Portal wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 59-42 loss against Bryan County on the 17th. Screven County has also already played their next contest, a 73-55 win against Metter on the 17th.
