Baseball Game Preview: Struthers Wildcats vs. Springfield Tigers

The Struthers Wildcats will challenge the Springfield Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Struthers will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Lakeview, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wildcats walked away with a 10-6 win over the Bulldogs on Tuesday.

Isaac Wolfe looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Anthony Pastella, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-4. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was JR Hovanec, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Springfield got the win against Memorial on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-1.

The victory got Struthers back to even at 1-1. As for Springfield, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Struthers came out on top in a nail-biter against Springfield in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
