Baseball Game Preview: Hobbs Eagles vs. Piedra Vista Panthers

The Hobbs Eagles will take on the Piedra Vista Panthers in a tournament on Thursday.

Having struggled with eight defeats in a row dating back to last season, Hobbs turned things around against Piedra Vista on Saturday. They never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Eagles' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Chase Brister tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Christian Montes was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Jason Fuentes was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Hobbs' first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Piedra Vista, they now also have a losing record of 1-2.
