Baseball Recap: Piner Comes Up Short

Piner extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 8-16 in the process. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Healdsburg Greyhounds. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Greyhounds this season, with their most recent defeat being a 5-2 loss on Wednesday.

Tyler Coester was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Piner: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 6-15 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kellan Stiles, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Healdsburg, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 17-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

On Healdsburg's side, Noah Wong looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Wong has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Healdsburg got a big performance out of Nova Perrill, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave Perrill a new career-high. Isaiah Robles was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

As of now, neither Piner nor Healdsburg have any future games scheduled.
