Kewanee has gone a perfect 10-0 against Newman Central Catholic recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Boilermakers will welcome the Comets at 4:30 p.m. Newman Central Catholic took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Kewanee, who comes in off a win.
Kewanee took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Princeton, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Boilermakers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Tigers on Friday, sneaking past 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Boilermakers have posted since April 6th.
Kalleigh Gale spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Kewanee got a big performance out of Macee Pickering, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Pickering has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Kieryn Abernathy, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Kewanee hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Newman Central Catholic's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 11-6 to Sherrard.
Lucy Oetting was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Propheter, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Kewanee has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Newman Central Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 8-13.
Kewanee's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Boilermakers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Newman Central Catholic, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Kewanee continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Kewanee's way against Newman Central Catholic in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, as Kewanee made off with a 13-0 victory. Will the Boilermakers repeat their success, or do the Comets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
