Baseball Recap: Earlville Extends Winning Streak to Three

Earlville and Hiawatha pushed the score to 10-9 the last time they played Hiawatha, but on Monday defenses reigned supreme. The Red Raiders' pitcher stepped up to hand the Hawks a 3-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Red Raiders sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Not much got past Aaden Browder, who gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks to keep Hiawatha off the board. Browder has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Austin Todd, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Earlville is 2-1 when Todd posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-8 otherwise. James Henne also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Earlville's victory bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Hiawatha, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Earlville will have a chance to go back-to-back against Hiawatha: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
