Softball Recap: Wellsville Comes Up Short

Monday just wasn't the day for Wellsville's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Oskaloosa Bears on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 11-10 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2017.

Grace Brunmeier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

Wellsville has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Oskaloosa, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Wellsville beat the Bears by a score of 9-8 later that day.
