Basketball Recap: Brentwood Find Success

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Brentwood had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Gatewood Gators, sneaking past 64-62. That's the fourth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 74-56 victory last Thursday.

Brentwood found their leader in sophomore Baylor Cobb, who posted 24 points. That's the most points Cobb has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaelen Johnson, who had 13 points.

Several Gators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Matt Allen, who on his way to 22 points in addition to eight assists and eight rebounds. Allen's big performance that afternoon made it 53 games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Kaden Keiser was another key player, en route to 16 points and six boards.

Brentwood has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 21-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.2 points over those games. Gatewood's defeat dropped their record down to 20-6.

Looking ahead, Brentwood will take on Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Brentwood's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last ten matches. Gatewood does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
