The Fontana Steelers will head out to square off against the Rim of the World Fighting Scots at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Rim of the World took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Fontana, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Fontana turned things around against Arroyo Valley on Friday. They came out on top against the Hawks by a score of 5-1.
Fernando Padilla spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Andres Osegeura, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Fontana's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-16 when he doesn't). Oscar Martinez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Fontana kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arroyo Valley only managed five hits.
Meanwhile, Rim of the World was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-10 heartbreaker at the hands of Arroyo Valley. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Fighting Scots have suffered since April 2nd.
John Phillips and Jake Ristow stepped up to the plate in a big way. Phillips went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Ristow went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Collin Johnstone, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Rim of the World's defeat dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Fontana, their record now sits at 6-17.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fontana hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Rim of the World struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
