Soccer Game Preview: Cypress Lake vs. Lely

The Cypress Lake Panthers will head out to square off against the Lely Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cypress Lake will be strutting in after a win while Lely will be coming in after a loss.

Cypress Lake will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one goal on Tuesday, then bounced right back against LaBelle on Thursday. Cypress Lake walked away with a 4-2 victory over LaBelle. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Panthers' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

They hit LaBelle with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Aundrea Vargas, Kiera Desmond, Emily Desmond, and Rylie Weeks.

Meanwhile, Lely managed to keep up with Estero until halftime on Thursday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Lely came up short against Estero, falling 4-0. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 304th, while the Wildcats are ranked 108th).

Cypress Lake's win bumped their record up to 8-9-1. As for Lely, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8-2 record this season.

Cypress Lake might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Lely in their previous matchup back in January of 2022. Can Cypress Lake avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
