Preview: Owen Warhorses vs. Madison Patriots
The Owen Warhorses will head out on the road to challenge the Madison Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Owen's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 13 contests.
Even though Avery County scored an imposing 72 points on Friday, Owen still came out on top. Owen came out on top in a nail-biter against Avery County and snuck past 75-72. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Owen has posted since January 12th.
Owen relied on the efforts of Eli Lewkowicz, who scored 14 points along with six assists and five rebounds, and Asante Martin, who scored 30 points along with seven assists. Martin continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Daxon Mason, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and four blocks.
Meanwhile, Madison pushed their score all the way to 63 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Avery County 67-63. Madison has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Madison got a solid performance out of Gavin Gault, who scored 29 points along with three steals. That was a full 46% of Madison's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Eighmey, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Owen's win bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Madison, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-12.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Owen have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 42.2% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Madison struggles in that department as they've made 42.5% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Owen couldn't quite finish off Madison in their previous matchup last Wednesday and fell 65-63. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Eighmey, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds. Now that Owen knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time?
