Softball Recap: Make It Eight in a Row for West Jordan

West Jordan had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They never let the Kearns Cougars get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-0 last Tuesday.

Rita Tavita made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, Lafiana Fifita was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-2. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Hailey Fox also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

West Jordan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.

West Jordan pushed their record up to 16-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Kearns, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Jordan will square off against Farmington at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Kearns, they will head out to challenge Cyprus at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games the Pirates have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
