Basketball Recap: McMichael Comes Up Short

McMichael was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They had to suffer through an 86-35 loss at the hands of the Reidsville Rams. While losing is never fun, the Phoenix can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 497th, while the Rams are ranked 17th).

Despite the defeat, McMichael saw an underclassman step up: sophomore JJ Tatum posted 14 points.

Reidsville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Johnniyus Sharpe out in front who went 13-for-20 en route to 31 points and three steals. The contest was Sharpe's sixth in a row with at least 20 points. Dionte Neal was another key player, almost dropping a triple-double with 14 points, ten assists, and nine steals.

McMichael's loss dropped their record down to 5-17. As for Reidsville, the win keeps them at an undefeated 22-0.

McMichael didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 62-50 defeat against North Forsyth on the 12th. As for Reidsville, they have also already played their next game, an 87-45 victory against Morehead on the 12th.
