While Martins Ferry's victory against Cambridge wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Purple Riders skirted past the Bobcats 5-3. The win continues a trend for the Purple Riders in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won four in a row.

Maddie Lucas was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Lucas wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Averie Hughes, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Kendyl Brandon was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Martins Ferry hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cambridge struck out 13 times.

Martins Ferry pushed their record up to 22-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cambridge, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season.

Martins Ferry will welcome Claymont at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cambridge, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 17-0 victory against Zanesville on the 10th.
