Union City took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Hudson Catholic Hawks with a sharp 14-4 victory. The Soaring Eagles have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Hawks, too.

Zaylee Vargas made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Vargas was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zo? Mays, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Abigail Ledesma, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
