Basketball Recap: Mustang Broncos vs. Putnam City North Panthers
Mustang lost against Putnam City North back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mustang Broncos lost 61-35 to the Putnam City North Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Broncos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 182nd, while the Panthers are ranked 34th).
Putnam City North's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Khai Brown, who posted eight points in addition to seven assists and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Leonard, who had eight points and four steals.
Mustang has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Putnam City North, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-4.
Mustang will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Southmoore at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th. Southmoore knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Mustang likes a good challenge. As for Putnam City North, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 67-64 win against Choctaw on the 28th.
