Softball Recap: Oakwood Makes It Three in a Row at Home

Oakwood owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Monday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over the Armstrong Trojans. The Comets haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Irene Rangel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Rangel wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Caydence Vermillion, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Oakwood's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-8-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Armstrong, they moved to 13-10 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oakwood will square off against Champaign Central at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Armstrong, they will face off against Milford at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
