The biggest upset of the week belonged to Statesboro, who took down 61st ranked Statesboro, 12-6. Brandon James threw for 48 yards and one touchdown and ran for 45 yards in the win.
Wayne County made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,501 from 3,836. The improvement was the result of 14-13 victory over Liberty County last week.
The Panthers' dynamic duo of JJ Grant and Jordan Waters proved tough for the Yellow Jackets to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Grant threw for 74 yards and one touchdown and Waters had 30 yards receiving. Jeremy Caldwell-Fabregas helped Liberty County's passing attack out by catching two balls for 21 yards.
Joshua Mercer was the most productive running back in AAAA Region 3A this week. He ran for 77 yards on 17 carries as South Effingham fell to Wayne County.
The Panthers' Grant and Caldwell-Fabregas have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Grant has thrown for 447 yards this season, while Caldwell-Fabregas, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 17 catches for 421 yards. The Mustangs' Mercer leads the league in rushing yards with 863.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when South Effingham takes on Liberty County. The Mustangs are in second place, while the Panthers are in third place.
There should be lots of points scored when South Effingham and Liberty County face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Mustangs comes in having scored 225 this season, while the Panthers have scored 184. South Effingham scored 12 points last week as it beat the Blue Devils.
Liberty County fell 14-13 to the Yellow Jackets in the closest game of the week. Grant was a bright spot for the Panthers, as he ran for 75 yards and caught one passes for 16 yards in the loss.
