Basketball Game Preview: Sierra Stallions vs. Dakota Ridge Eagles

The Sierra Stallions will square off against the Dakota Ridge Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Last Thursday, Sierra lost to Vista Ridge at home by a 52-37 margin. While losing is never fun, the Stallions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while the Wolves are ranked 41st).

Despite the loss, Sierra had strong showings from Shetara Roebuck, who posted 16 points and three steals, and Ziyon Nicholson, who put up ten points. That's the most points Roebuck has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Deja Burns, who scored five points and 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Dakota Ridge didn't have too much trouble with Wheat Ridge on Saturday as they won 48-29. That 19 point margin sets a new team best for the Eagles this season.

Dakota Ridge's win came from a few key players Sierra will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Darian Lewis, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten boards. Dakota Ridge is undefeated when Lewis posts eight or more rebounds, but 7-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Emery Bowman, who on her way to 13 points in addition to seven steals and five boards.

Sierra's defeat dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Dakota Ridge, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-13.

Sierra didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Dakota Ridge when the teams last played back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 43-39 win. Will Sierra repeat their success, or does Dakota Ridge have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
