Softball Recap: Irvin Comes Up Short

Irvin extended their losing streak to nine on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 3-18 in the process. They came up short against the Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy Warriors, falling 19-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 back in March.

Irvin saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cassandra Cardiel, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-5. That looming 19-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

On Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy's side, Avia Cox made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Cox was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy let Destiny Licon and Nidia Fierro run wild. Licon got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base, while Fierro went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Fierro has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Annalyssa Martinez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Irvin has already played their next game, a 16-6 defeat against Riverside on the 11th. As for Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 15-4 victory against Austin on the 11th.
