Preview: United Longhorns vs. Marshall Rams
The United Longhorns are on the road again on Friday and play against the Marshall Rams at 8:00 p.m. on December 8th. United will be strutting in after a win while Marshall will be coming in after a loss.
Even though Jefferson scored an imposing 55 points on Saturday, United still came out on top. United blew past Jefferson 75-55.
Meanwhile, Marshall struggled with offensive rebounds on Tuesday (Brandeis had 2300% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Marshall suffered a rough 73-53 defeat at the hands of Brandeis. While losing is never fun, Marshall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 887th, while Brandeis is ranked 354th).
Marshall's loss came about despite a quality game from Aric Goodman, who scored 23 points. Goodman continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Josiah Powell, who scored 8 points.
The losses dropped United to 5-8 and Jefferson to 6-8.
United couldn't quite finish off Marshall in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 and fell 66-64. Thankfully for United, Matthew Gonzalez (who shot 6-for-13 from deep and dropped a double-double on 40 points and 12 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
