Bryn Mawr School (Md.) coach Wendy Kridel was naturally thrilled that her team claimed a 14-13 win over former No. 2 St. Stephen's & St. Agnes (Va.) Saturday.

But even better was how her team won: by rallying from a late four-goal deficit and getting a number of clutch plays down the stretch.

Senior Erica Matz scored with 22 seconds left to cap the furious comeback as the Mawrtians improved to 2-0. Bryn Mawr was trailing 12-8 with 6 minutes to play, but Kate Snouffer found Caroline Turco (three goals) to make it 12-9 and Snouffer then fed Kassandra Bowling (four goals) to make it 12-10.

Besser Dyson found Carly Reed (six goals) to give the Saints (2-1) a 13-10 edge, but Turco and Bowling converted free position shots to make it 13-12. Snouffer then tied it with 1:44 to play and, after the Saints committed a yellow card, Matz scored the game-winner.

"We just picked it up a notch," said Kridel. "We controlled the 50-50 balls, we got the save when we needed it and we were able to finish. I think it's more how we played than who we played. Our seniors raised the level of play. I was happy to see us beat a formidable opponent like we did."

Kridel was equally happy with the Mawrtians' opening-day, 9-7 win over IAAM foe John Carroll.

"The John Carroll win is perhaps more significant because it affects our standing for the season," she said. "I just like playing great competition."

McDonogh streak continues
No. 1 McDonogh stopped the nation's longest winning streak at 68 when it toppled host Vero Beach, 15-5, Tuesday as Samantha Burgess scored six goals and Megan White added three. Taylor Cummings contributed two goals and two assists and Alison Silber posted eight saves in the win.

The Eagles now have the longest streak at 52 games.

"I was very impressed with the composure of our kids, especially the young kids," said McDonogh coach Chris Robinson. "The kids played smart and played a great game. I am really happy."

Games to watch this week:

No. 8 Manhasset at No. 10 St. Anthony's, Friday
No. 6 St. Stephen's & St. Agnes at No. 13 Vero Beach, Friday at the American Lacrosse tourney
No. 15 Milton at No. 13 Vero Beach, Saturday at the American Lacrosse tourney
