Basketball Recap: Lafaye Gibson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead South Bend Riley over South Bend St. Joseph

South Bend Riley lost against South Bend St. Joseph back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The South Bend Riley Wildcats fell 56-43 to the South Bend St. Joseph Huskies.

South Bend Riley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lafaye Gibson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Norton, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, South Bend Riley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Kenadie Schrock continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for South Bend St. Joseph, going 5 of 9 on her way to 17 points in addition to six boards and four steals. Schrock has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Langager, who had nine points and three steals.

South Bend Riley's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-8. As for South Bend St. Joseph, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-4.

South Bend Riley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 57-45 loss against Culver Academies on the 11th. As for South Bend St. Joseph, they will square off against Goshen at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Bend St. Joseph is facing Goshen at the right time seeing as Goshen is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
