Baseball Recap: Summit Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Summit dropped their record down to 7-9 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Westfield Blue Devils. Hilltoppers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Blue Devils since on Friday.

Summit saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shane Walsh, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Westfield, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The game was the first time they have beaten Summit on their field since May 11, 2017.

On Westfield's side, Grant Como spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. Como has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jordan Walsh was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Charlie McCormack was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Summit will host Watchung Hills Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Westfield, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Cranford at 4:00 p.m.
