Baseball Game Preview: Yough Cougars vs. Ligonier Valley Rams

Yough is 0-3 against Ligonier Valley since March of 2022 but things could change on Monday. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Rams at 4:00 p.m. Yough is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

Ligonier Valley will be up against a hot Yough team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Cougars blew past California 19-9 on Thursday. Considering the Cougars have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Tyler Burkett, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nate Bell, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Burrell hit Ligonier Valley with a six-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rams fell 8-4 to the Bucs. The defeat continues a trend for the Rams in their meetings with the Bucs: they've now lost three in a row.

Jacob Petalino made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Ligonier Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-6 when he doesn't).

Ligonier Valley's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Yough, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.
