Baseball Game Preview: Emerson Mavericks vs. Braswell Bengals

The Emerson Mavericks will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Braswell Bengals at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. Emerson's pitching crew has only allowed 1.3 runs per game this season, so Braswell's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Emerson is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Horn just ended the team's seven-game winning streak dating back to last season on Saturday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jaguars. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Mavericks were not able to get on the board.

Emerson got a good showing from Parker Bockoven, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Emerson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Juan Salcedo, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Braswell didn't have quite enough to beat Centennial on Thursday and fell 5-4. That's two games in a row now that the Bengals have lost by just one run.

Braswell has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6-2 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. Having lost for the first time this season, Emerson fell to 5-1.
