Basketball Recap: Modoc Takes a Loss

Modoc lost against Weed back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Modoc Braves had to suffer through a 78-42 loss at the hands of the Weed Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Braves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 876th, while the Cougars are ranked 355th).

Modoc lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Adin Benson, who posted seven points and 11 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nate Gallardo, who scored eight points and six rebounds.

Weed's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaxon King, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Horton, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Modoc's defeat dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Weed, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 17 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Modoc didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 74-43 loss against Mt. Shasta on the 11th. As for Weed, they have also already played their next game, a 90-34 win against Fall River on the 10th.
