Flanagan took a three-set loss the last time they faced off against Cypress Bay, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Falcons sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Lightning on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Falcons have posted since February 23rd.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (110-103) Flanagan actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-24, 17-25, 19-25, 26-24, 15-12.

Samuel Suarez paced Flanagan's offense, picking up 14 kills. Suarez got some help from Joel Romero and his 29 assists. Finally, Gianpierre Pavia kept Flanagan's defense grounded, leading the team with five blocks.

Despite the defeat, Cypress Bay saw an underclassman step up: freshman Cesar Gutierrez had 20 digs and six aces. Those 20 digs set a new season-high mark for Gutierrez. The team also got some help courtesy of Mathias Okamoto, who had five digs and five aces.

The victory made it two in a row for Flanagan and bumps their season record up to 8-7. As for Cypress Bay, they moved to 15-4 with that loss, which also ended their ten-match winning streak.

Flanagan wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-2 defeat against South Plantation on the 8th. As for Cypress Bay, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Pompano Beach on the 9th.
