Soccer Game Preview: Longmont vs. Skyline

Longmont hasn't had much luck against Skyline recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Trojans will venture away from home to square off against the Falcons at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Longmont has five straight wins, Skyline has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Longmont's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Monday. Everything went their way against Greeley Central as they made off with a 3-0 victory. It was an even better day for Kylissa Kirk as she scored nine goals for her team.

Longmont's lineup was just a bit different last Monday as Avianna Aldape got a bit more time on the pitch (80 vs. her season average of 48.3). Aldape made the most of the opportunity, putting up one assist A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Skyline took on Riverdale Ridge on Tuesday. The Falcons fell just short of the Ravens by a score of 3-2. While losing is never fun, Skyline can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado soccer rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Riverdale Ridge are ranked 25th).

Longmont's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Skyline, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6-1.

Longmont suffered a grim 4-0 defeat to Skyline when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
