Basketball Preview: Rancho Rams vs. Green Valley Gators
Rancho is 2-7 against the Gators since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Rancho Rams will head out on the road to take on the Green Valley Gators at 6:30 p.m. Rancho is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
You can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Rancho's strategy against the Cowboys on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Rancho blew the Cowboys out of the water with a 63-3 final score. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-0.
Rancho's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Dagons, who scored eight points along with five rebounds. Brooklynn Ceccarelli was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Meanwhile, Green Valley was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 42-36 to the Skyhawks. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Green Valley in their matchups with the Skyhawks: they've now lost four in a row.
Rancho is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Green Valley, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-20 record this season.
Rancho was able to grind out a solid victory over the Gators when the teams last played back in January, winning 53-41. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rancho since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
