Preview: Christian Liberty vs. Elgin Academy Hilltoppers
Christian Liberty is 0-3 against Elgin Academy since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. Christian Liberty will be playing in front of their home fans against the Elgin Academy Hilltoppers at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Monday, Christian Liberty didn't have too much trouble with Hiawatha on the road as they won 59-40. The win made it back-to-back wins for Christian Liberty.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought contest, but Elgin Academy had to settle for a 67-64 loss against Northridge on Friday. While losing is never fun, Elgin Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 529th, while Northridge is ranked 248th).
Despite their loss, Elgin Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Tayten Wilder, who scored 20 points along with 6 rebounds and 6 steals, was perhaps the best of all. Wilder has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Rahul Gowda was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Christian Liberty now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Elgin Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
