Basketball Recap: Newell-Fonda Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Newell-Fonda won the last time they faced Pocahontas and things went their way on Friday too. The Newell-Fonda Mustangs walked away with a 57-46 win over the Pocahontas Indians. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Indians are ranked 260th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Newell-Fonda now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Pocahontas, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newell-Fonda will venture away from home to square off against Gehlen Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pocahontas, they will head out to challenge Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
