Softball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Coalfield's Seventh in Last Nine Outings

Coalfield's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. Everything went their way against the Wartburg Central Bulldogs as they made off with an 11-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Yellow Jackets, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Olivia Laymance was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Gracie Davis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Baylee Chadwick was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Coalfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wartburg Central only managed six hits.

Coalfield has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Wartburg Central, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-7 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coalfield will face off against Claiborne at 7:35 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wartburg Central, they will take on Roane County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
