Basketball Recap: Urbana Comes Up Short

Urbana was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Chicago Mt. Carmel Caravan and fell 73-44. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th, while the Caravan are ranked 15th).

Despite the loss, Urbana still got an impressive performance from Kyree Hillsman, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaiden Anindo, who had eight points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chicago Mt. Carmel to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cameron Thomas, who went 9 of 16 to rack up 22 points and eight boards. Thomas' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Kyle Chevalier also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Urbana's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Chicago Mt. Carmel, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 22-5.

Urbana didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-53 defeat against Champaign Central on the 7th. As for Chicago Mt. Carmel, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, an 80-64 win against South Bend St. Joseph on the 8th.
