Preview: Petal Panthers vs. Richton Rebels
The Petal Panthers will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Richton Rebels at 7:30 p.m. on November 30th. Petal has insisted on making their lastfour contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 1-3 during that stretch of close contests.
Last Tuesday, it was a hard-fought match, but Petal had to settle for a 50-47 defeat against South Jones.
Meanwhile, Richton put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down St. Stanislaus 56-37. Given Richton's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while St. Stanislaus is ranked 87th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dakota Amos and Matthew Shepard were among the main playmakers for Richton as the former scored 16 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Amos' seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dave Woulard, who scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds.
Petal's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Richton, their win bumped their record up to 7-0.
Everything came up roses for Petal against Richton in their previous meeting back in November of 2015 as the squad secured a 68-40 victory. Does Petal have another victory up their sleeve, or will Richton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
