Baseball Game Preview: Wheeling Wildcats vs. Mundelein Mustangs

The Wheeling Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Mundelein Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mundelein took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Wheeling, who comes in off a win.

On Saturday, Wheeling earned an 8-5 victory over Taft.

Meanwhile, Mundelein fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Barrington on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Fillies/Broncos by a score of 6-5. The Mustangs just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.

Logan Young was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April.

On the hitting side, Caden Earing and Dan Stricklin stepped up to the plate in a big way. Earing went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Stricklin went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was Stricklin's first of the season. Sean Sanderson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Mundelein's loss dropped their record down to 21-10-2. As for Wheeling, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 13-20.

Wheeling might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Mundelein in their previous meeting back in March of 2022. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
