Baseball Game Preview: Marshall Eagles vs. Gabrielino Eagles

We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. Marshall's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Gabrielino's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Marshall will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Mountain View on Wednesday. Marshall was the clear victor by a 10-0 margin over Mountain View. The matchup marked the Eagles' most dominant win of the season so far.

Michael Gerst looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Marshall let Nate Callaway and Caleb Thatcher run wild. Callaway went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI, while Thatcher went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave Callaway a new career-high. George Jennings also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Marshall was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Gabrielino and Arroyo finished up on equal footing with a 10-10 tie on Wednesday.

Marshall has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. With that tie, Gabrielino's record moves to 2-2-1.

Marshall beat Gabrielino 7-2 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Does Marshall have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gabrielino turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
