Recap: Artesia Pioneers vs. Cerritos Dons
It was a good run, but the Artesia Pioneers unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 52-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cerritos. If Artesia hoped to take revenge for the 50-47 loss against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zion Staples, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Joshua Martinez was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Artesia's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-9. As for Cerritos, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Artesia will play host again and welcome Whitney, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cerritos, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pioneer at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pioneer will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 830th, while Cerritos is ranked 344th).
