Football Recap: North Platte Bulldogs vs. Lincoln East Spartans

North Platte was the 41-38 winner over Lincoln East when they last played one another back in October of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The North Platte Bulldogs took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lincoln East Spartans on Friday. The Bulldogs gained 138 more yards on the day, but it was the Spartans that made the best use of them.

Despite the loss, North Platte still got an impressive performance from Caden Joneson, who rushed for 175 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.2 yards per carry, and also threw for 85 yards and two touchdowns on only eight passes. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in total yards. Alonzo Torrez was another key player, rushing for 175 yards.

Even though they lost, North Platte was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 480 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln East only gained 342.

Lincoln East's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kyle Campbell led the charge by rushing for 140 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Another player making a difference was Ryan Manning, who threw for 183 yards and three touchdowns.

North Platte's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Lincoln East, they pushed their record up to 1-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

North Platte will head out to face off against Norfolk at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran up and down the field in their prior games. As for Lincoln East, they will take on Grand Island at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
