Basketball Recap: Howells-Dodge Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Win

Howells-Dodge extended their winning streak to eight on Monday, bumping them up to 8-0. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2025 than the 86-39 stomp they got against the Aquinas Monarchs. The Jaguars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 22 points or more this season.

Howells-Dodge was led to victory by Nathan Tomcak and Chase Luther. Tomcak shot 60% from the field on his way to 23 points and seven steals, while Luther went 8-for-18 to rack up 20 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Luther's big performance that afternoon made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Andre Martin, who went 6-for-10 en route to 12 points and seven rebounds.

Howells-Dodge was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They racked up seven more assists than Aquinas' also-impressive total of 11.

As for Aquinas, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Howells-Dodge is ranked 40th).

Several Monarchs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dayne Jakub, who posted ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jarin Thege, who shot 71% from the field on his way to 12 points.

Howells-Dodge has already played their next matchup, a 66-42 win against Palmyra on the 30th. As for Aquinas, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 44-42 loss against David City on the 30th.
