Westside extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping them up to 5-4. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 41-9 win over the Laurens Raiders. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 47th, while the Raiders are ranked 144th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Keylan Powell was his usual excellent self, rushing for 230 yards and four TDs while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, and also picking up 60 receiving yards. Westside is 3-1 when Powell posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise. Bear Woods was another key player, throwing for 248 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.

Westside didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Laurens to a completion percentage of just 50%. The Rams have been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.58 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.58 in their last three games.

As for Laurens, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-2 Wren (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.3% over those games).

Laurens' loss came despite strong showings from Damajia Crooks and Logan Bragg. Crooks picked up 123 receiving yards and one score, while Bragg threw for 172 yards on 15 of 30 attempts.

Westside didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 21-7 victory against Wren on the 30th. As for Laurens, they have also already played their next game, a 23-17 loss against Emerald on the 31st.
