Preview: Union Rockets vs. Hagerstown Tigers
Union is on a three-game streak of home losses, Hagerstown a nine-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. The Union Rockets will take on the Hagerstown Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Wednesday, Union was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 42-36 to Monroe Central. Union has not had much luck with Monroe Central recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Despite the loss, Union got a solid performance out of Glory Ellis, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Ellis continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlynn Holderman, who scored ten points.
Hagerstown suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Saturday. They were dealt a 67-15 defeat at the hands of Franklin County. While losing is never fun, Hagerstown can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 404th, while Franklin County is ranked 123rd).
Union has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Hagerstown, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-17.
Union came out on top in a nail-biter against Hagerstown when the teams last played back in December of 2022, sneaking past 52-50. Will Union repeat their success, or does Hagerstown have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
