Baseball Recap: Wheeling Takes a Loss

Wheeling had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 12-20 to make it four. They lost 16-8 to the Maine West Warriors. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their defeat to the Warriors from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Maine West, their win bumped their record up to 9-20-1. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

For Maine West's part, Ryan Duffy made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Duffy was even better at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Maine West got a massive performance out of Tim Wiley, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Wiley a new career-high. Perish Smith was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wheeling will take on Taft at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Maine West, they will square off against Rolling Meadows at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
