Football Game Preview: Davenport Wolves vs. La Vernia Bears + How To Watch

Two dominant backs in Barrett Fallon and TY CARTER are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Davenport Wolves will challenge the La Vernia Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Davenport is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Davenport is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They took down Bay City 34-19. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Wolves' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 80th, while the Blackcats are ranked 206th).

A big part of Davenport's victory came down to the chemistry between Tristan Torrez and his top target Zayden Garza. Torrez threw for 202 yards while completing 73.1% of his passes while Garza gained 84 total yards and a touchdown. That's the most passing yards Torrez has posted since back in October.

Davenport didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Josh Johnson was the real danger to the passing game, picking up two interceptions all by himself. Another thorn in Bay City's side was Peyton Yankie, who picked up two sacks, forced one fumble, and made 15 total tackles.

Meanwhile, La Vernia's game on Friday was all tied up 10-10 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They strolled past Calallen with points to spare, taking the game 31-13. That's two games straight that the Bears have won by exactly 18 points.

Davenport better keep an eye on COOPER NULL. He was instrumental in La Vernia's win, rushing for 181 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.3 yards per carry. NULL really tore up the turf during one magnificent 76-yard run.

Davenport's record now sits at 13-0. As for La Vernia, their record is now 12-1.

Davenport strolled past La Vernia in their previous meeting back in November of 2023 by a score of 45-31. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Bears' Keegan Hajek, who rushed for 123 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 293 yards and one touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Wolves to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
