Baseball Game Preview: Williamsville North Spartans vs. Aquinas Institute Little Irish

The Williamsville North Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the Aquinas Institute Little Irish at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Williamsville North barely beat Jamestown the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Spartans blew past the Red & Green 7-1 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Red & Green: they've now won nine in a row.

Williamsville North got a great performance from George Klentos as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Klentos has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Williamsville North let AJ Weissenburg and Caleb Okulewicz run wild. Weissenburg went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double, while Okulewicz went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Weissenburg has become a key player for Williamsville North: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Sam Welgoss also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Aquinas Institute). They put the hurt on Greece Arcadia with a sharp 16-7 victory on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Little Irish sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Aquinas Institute now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Williamsville North, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Williamsville North couldn't quite finish off Aquinas Institute when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
