Baseball Game Preview: Gladewater Bears vs. Tatum Eagles

The Gladewater Bears will take on the Tatum Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Gladewater made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Troup, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Gladewater's pitcher stepped up to hand Troup a 6-0 shutout on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bears.

The result came thanks to Sean Burke's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Luke Brown was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Tatum had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. Everything went their way against the Tigers as they made off with a 17-6 victory.

The team relied heavily on Cooper Whiteus, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kody Hines, who went 1-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Tatum's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Gladewater, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.

Gladewater was able to grind out a solid win over Tatum when the teams last played back in March of 2017, winning 7-4. Does Gladewater have another victory up their sleeve, or will Tatum turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
