Natalie Madrid was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had over her last four matchups. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacelyn Baca, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-2. Kelsie DeGraaf was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Los Lunas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Rio Grande lost 17-1 to Albuquerque on Friday. The Ravens have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Rio Grande saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Yvette 'Bear' Breneiser, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Los Lunas is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Rio Grande, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
Rio Grande's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Los Lunas has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Rio Grande, though, as they've been averaging 14.7 hits. Given Los Lunas' sizable advantage in that area, the Ravens will need to find a way to close that gap.
Los Lunas took their victory against Rio Grande in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Ravens turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
