Basketball Game Preview: Floydada Whirlwinds vs. Gruver Greyhounds

The Floydada Whirlwinds will take on the Gruver Greyhounds at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Floydada's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 20 games.

Floydada is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top against Farwell by a score of 65-55. The Whirlwinds haven't had any issues with the Steers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Floydada's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sergio Valadez, who went 9-for-16 on his way to 25 points. What's more, Valadez also posted an 83% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in January of 2024. Tyrean Henderson was another key player, going 6-for-13 to rack up 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Meanwhile, Gruver blew past Clarendon, posting a 68-34 victory. The Greyhounds have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Floydada pushed their record up to 23-11 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.8 points over those games. As for Gruver, their victory bumped their record up to 17-1.

Floydada didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Gruver in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 62-56 win. Will Floydada repeat their success, or does Gruver have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
